This is a logo for a Melbourne-based artist, Leopard Snail, who creates jewellery inspired by her childhood. She creates pieces out of classic children’s toys such as LEGO and crayons.

For the logo, I was asked to create a greyscale design suitable for printing on business cards. Andy then hand-paints colour onto the snail on each business card, gifting her customers a unique piece of her art packed into their orders.

I had a lot of fun doing this snail. You can see from the time-lapse video that I was able to have a solid design from the beginning and it lends itself by being able to adapt and look interesting with most colour combinations. I have just started a YouTube channel which I will continue posting on. Subscribe. If you do such things.

Here are a couple of older versions on the way to the final design. The initial snail looks much rougher, older, ugly and slightly frightening. Together, we decided that this may be too intricate for placing on a business card, and would make it difficult to paint and colour as intended. As Leopard Snail intends to create some accessories for children in the future too, we opted to soften the final design and make the creature friendly, warm and more inviting.
